Values clash at work?

Updated: Apr 2

A couple of my clients are struggling with values clashes at work, which has reminded me of my own story.

A super successful company in my tech world wanted me to join them. I loved their high integrity story and reputation for excellence. I was in with a grin! 😁

But from my first day, I felt like I'd slipped into an alternate reality ... the New Zealand version of The Wolf of Wall Street. I'd worked in "boys club" environments, so I wasn’t precious, but this was next-level anti-women and just gross. 🤮

After four awful months, I resigned ... and I decided to be professional but honest in my exit interview.

Some time later, I had a great chat with the new CEO, who thanked me for speaking up. Apparently, my leaving had led to a much-needed clean-up. 🤔

Looking back, leaving was a sliding door moment for me. I took a new direction in my career ... and it worked out so much better than if I'd stayed! 💃🏼

It's just a four-month gap in my LinkedIn job history. No explanation needed.

If things at work just don't feel right, don't ignore it. Sit with how you're feeling and follow your heart on what to do. Even if you feel stuck, you do know.

Perhaps you'll stay if you can make a difference, or perhaps it's time to find a new path. 🌈

Here's to knowing things always work out perfectly when you have the courage to be true to yourself. 🧭🌟
