Frequently asked questions

What is coaching? The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as ”partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership. We all have goals, challenges and times we’re stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.”

Is coaching the same as therapy or counselling? No. I don’t work on past issues or traumas. I’m not a counsellor, psychologist or psychotherapist. I use tools to help you get distance from painful thoughts and reframe your perceptions, but we won’t do therapy on the trauma itself. I focus on the present and how you move forward. I can make recommendations to trusted professionals who can assist at this level if you need.
-
How do I know if coaching is right for me?Coaching is a great fit if you aren’t making the progress you want on your own, value collaboration, need accountability and structure, could benefit from fresh perspectives and learning some powerful tools, and are prepared to commit time and energy to make improvements in your work and life.

How to know how many sessions I’ll need?It all comes down to the depth of transformation you’re up for, and your commitment of time and money as to how many sessions you’d like to invest in. If you’re unsure about the number of sessions you’ll need, feel free to reach out for a free call. During the call, I’ll ask you about your coaching goals and recommend the number of sessions that may be suitable.
-
How can I make the most of my coaching experience?Commit to attending your scheduled sessions. “Life” will always be happening. Treat it like it’s that one immovable thing. Speak from the heart, be vulnerable, honest, curious, open-minded, and brave. Finally, there will be action steps to do in the real world. This is where the magic is. Don’t shortchange yourself.
-
Why does coaching produce such rapid change?Coaching produces rapid change through the synergy between the coach and client, setting motivating goals, developing new skills, and providing structured support to overcome obstacles and achieve more in less time.
-
Can coaching guarantee specific outcomes?Coaching gives you valuable tools, support, and guidance to increase your chances of success and growth. However, outcomes can’t be guaranteed because it’s up to you to make the changes in your life, and no one can do this for you. Having said that, I will be your dedicated advocate, guide and support person. Together we can get the outcomes you wish for.
-
Shouldn’t I be able to reach my goals on my own?The best athletes, leaders, and performers wouldn’t be without a coach. Two heads are better than one. If you’re here, it means you want growth and recognise the value of a trusted partner in uncovering your best self.
-
What about confidentiality?I create a safe space for you to be vulnerable and share what’s on your mind … the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s just between you and me, and the more open you are to sharing without filtering, the more powerful the sessions will be for you. Everything you share with me is confidential unless I feel there is a risk you could harm yourself or others. In that case, it’s my professional duty to involve the appropriate people. This would usually be an open discussion with you.
